Ionospheric predictions for the December 14, 2020 eclipse

Paper supported by INCT GNSS-NavAer presents ionospheric predictions for the eclipse that will occur on December 14, 2020. The article "Prediction of the Ionospheric Response to the 14 December 2020 Total Solar Eclipse Using SUPIM-INPE", by Miguel Martínez‐Ledesma, Manuel Bravo, Benjamin Urra, Jonas Souza e Alberto Foppiano, was accepted for publication in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics.

The impact of obscurity will cause a decrease in TEC ('Total Electron Content') of up to 22%. Decreases of up to 1.5 TECu were also observed in the conjugated sector, with respect to the magnetic equator, in South America. A video showing the results of TEC decreases, represented by the gradient of the blue color, can be seen in the following link, https://fb.watch/1BhU7VUz_A/.

It is relevant to mention that Dr. Bravo, one of the authors, is a former doctoral student of the Postgraduate Program in Space Geophysics at INPE and his supervisors were Dr. Inez Staciarini Batista and Dr. Jonas Rodrigues de Souza, researchers senior staff at INPE and the latter is a member of INCT GNSS-NavAer.
