Discover the multiple uses of GNSS

Article adapted from page publishe by Unesp TV

Global Satellite Navigation Systems (GNSS) make it possible to know the position of an object anywhere on the Earth's surface. The most famous navigation system is the GPS developed by the USA. However, in addition to it, there are other systems such as the russian GLONASS and, in the future, the european GALILEO and the chinese COMPASS. What they have in common is that they do much more than show the way to your home, serving for various monitoring jobs and atmospheric and surface measurements.

Researcher João Francisco Galera Monico, from Unesp of Presidente Prudente, talks about the multiple uses of GNSS.

Together with researchers and advisers, he uses the GNSS for studies in the area of cartography and geodesy (science that studies the measurements of the physical characteristics and representations of the planet Earth). There are several researches carried out: such as monitoring the level of water in reservoirs and in the atmosphere, in addition to the possibility of use in air navigation.
